So I'm not a true kiwi, but lived there for 6 months so I feel I'm an honorary kiwi at least. I fell in love the minute I landed. I lived in Dunedin, but traveled around the entire south island. I miss the people, the scenery, the food (especially afghans from the 2-4). and Anzacs mmmm. I felt like this is where I should have been my entire life. seriously. I've studied abroad in several other countries, including england, and will soon be off to Africa.....but NZ will always be my second home. *sigh*. Tis a shame I cannot afford to live there, my family would...well....let's just say they wouldn't be too happy if I moved half way around the world.

I am trying to come up with some arguments and statistics that support the argument that NZ is an Information Society for an assigment (Diploma in Library and Information Studies) which is due at 5 pm today.

Your ideas and/or input are welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone!!! [08 Jan 2007|10:34pm]

So I'm new to this community.... I'm 19 and living in Australia (Brisbane) at the moment. I was born and raised in the South Island, just above Christchurch and when I was 16 I went to America for a year (exchange student), and got really homesick, then I moved back to do year 13, then at the beginning of '06 I moved here with family. I get homesick a lot - more for the scenery (we're in a looooooong drought here and everything's brown), and the food.... the people too.... It's really hard!!!!! I even miss the crappy and cold weather!!!! That's how homesick I am.

"Once a Kwi, always a Kiwi."
My new motto =)

Eh up folks,

I am a homesick nzer currently living in Liverpool, UK. My famiy moved here back in 1995 when I was a kid, but I feel like a real Kiwi. My parents will be going back to retire soon enough and I am just waiting for the financial opportunity to move back myself. Although I do want to see a bit more of the world first.

Born in Hastings, brought up in Feilding, love Wellington, Hurricanes are my fav team. Don't have much of a Kiwi accent anymore unless I'm drunk or talking to NZers, then it comes back a treat!

Who else is homesick?

Split Enz [11 Aug 2006|01:10pm]

Did anyone else in Aust. get to see Split Enz when they were here?  I went and it was fecking awesome!!!!!!  So much awesome New Zealand talent!  Made me very happy, I seem to still be bubbling from it :D  Tim is a sexy, sexy man!

Anyway, was just browsing through various Split Enz related pages and found that according to an Aust. webpage Split Enz is a New Zealand/Melbourne band.

What is Australia's problem?  Why not just admit that NZ is the better country?  Australia was also trying to claim Keisha Castle-Hughes for a little while.  And after claiming Russell Crowe for so long they've decided that New Zealand can have him back, 'New Zealand Russell Crowe caused a scene at a hotel earlier this year'.

A big BAH to Australia, the talent-claiming-monger-ers!

It seems they're not proud of their own talent, which is confusing, why wouldn't you be proud of Layton Hewitt?  He's so awesome at chucking tantrums!

"...who has a sonic SCREWDRIVER?!" [25 Jun 2006|10:31pm]

Hi! [waves] Though the community's pretty quiet, I just had to toss my two cents in. I'm a Southlander transplanted to the North -- of England. Their accent, however, is much funnier than ours...trouble is, I'm starting to talk like I'm from Yorkshire myself. It's really getting to be a bit of a worry. ^_~

I don't actually miss home as much as I thought I might, although I must say that working for Boots is like being an indentured servant; they don't give a damn about their workers. KFC also has baked beans instead of potato and gravy, so my flatmate and I regularly bitch about the lack of REAL comfort food. I have, however, been converted to the vinegar-and-salt version of fish and chips, and I spend a little too much time at Marks these days. :D

If there is one thing that drives me nuts, though, it's every damn customer saying to me: "Ooh, are you from Australia, luv?"

[HEADDESK]

...although I do have a genuine Aussie on-site for instant comparison -- luckier than most, I guess!

I could, however, do with some pineapple lumps round about now. Time to put the shout-out for another care package from the folks!

Well, I was listening to one of my favourite bands, the Split Enz, while on LJ, and I decided to see who else loved them, and here I found this place!

I left New Zealand when I was 8. I am now Fourteen in Australia, and I get damn homesick all the time.

I miss... so many things it's impossible.

I miss icy puddles and jumping in them.
I miss saying "six" and not being taunted. sigh -.-
I miss the smells, the sounds, the feel. It's just not the same. It's just not.

Yeah, so that's all I have to say really

:D
Great to have someone else.

kiwi music overseas! [31 Mar 2006|12:32am]

I hope it's ok to post this here, but I figured you guys might be really into this. :D

I've just started a website to list all the NZ-related gigs & concerts (& any other events) that are going on in the UK & elsewhere overseas. So if you're dying for a dose of real-time Kiwiana, I might have just what you're looking for. ;) Please take a look, or pass along the link to anyone else you know who may be interested:

http://www.veintage.org/thekorubranch

& I also really need your help - do you know of any great NZ bands that are planning to tour overseas? Or do you know of any that I should keep an eye on in case they plan any gigs abroad in the future? Please let me know, I want to get my mitts on as much information as possible, and I'd really appreciate the help!

Kia Ora,

I'm a Kiwi, a JAFFA ;) and am currently living in New York City. August marks 2 years since I moved here, but I do wanna come home. I miss the food (KFC here sucks so much) and the cheese, and the milk, and the bread. Things here have so many additives in them so they stay fresh longer.

I work as a paramedic for the State, and it's really cold here at the moment. I'd kill for some warm weather.

Just thought I'd say hi!

Peace!

Hi!
I'm not exactly a Kiwi, but I've lived in NZ for a year as an exchange student.
And now that I'm back in Germany (where i originally come from) I'm driving everybody crazy about how everything is so much better in NZ and how I want to go back...
I want to come back over for studying. Maybe in about 4 or 5 years...
That's still so much time ;____;

Hey there... I`m a 19-year-old New Zealander, brought up in Wanganui and planning to move to Wellington for uni next year. I`m in Japan for six months at the moment working as an English tutor. It snowed a couple of days ago, the first snow of the winter x__x. Where has my New Zealand December summer gone?
I think one of the biggest things I miss is Vogels bread and tasty cheese. I brought Marmite with me, but it`s just not the same on big fat white bread, and Japanese cheese is -awful-. They basically only have the individual plastic-wrapped sliced cheese. Yuck.
Only a month until I`m home, though...

Hi

I'm new to this community. I'm Stacey, I'm 21, and have recently moved from New Zealand to Newcastle in the UK. I miss home, but it is nice to see the world. It is amazing how many people here say "you left New Zealand to come HERE? ARE YOU CRAZY?"

Yes, I think I am.
Mostly I miss my family and my dog, Ripples and Bluebird chips, onion dip and proper beer!

Looking forward to being part of the community!

I haven't told you all that I'm in the loverly New Zealand! I've been here for two weeks and leave tomorrow morning at some ungodly hour... um, 6:20am.
I love it here! I'm so relaxed and happy and calm. It's such an amazing country.
I've been mostly based in Hamilton and Wanganui with trips to Auckland and Tirau and a couple of other places that I need my diary to remember. Not to Rotorua though, my home town.
In Wanganui I got tattooed, a cute tiki on my right ankle, I'll put a photo up when I get back to Australia and they're developed.
I'll put a couple of pictures up, just to make us all yearn for New Zealand even more :)
For my last dinner my Gran is cooking me fish. Is it just me or is fish in New Zealand better than everywhere else?
